NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF WOMEN LEGISLATORS

National Conference of Women Legislators was held in New Delhi on 5 and 6
March, 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi under the auspices of the Indian Parliamentary
Group. Women Members of Parliament and State Legislators attended the Conference.

The Theme of the Conference was “Women Legislators: Building Resurgent
India”. Plenary Session followed by two Sessions were held during the Conference. The
themes of the Sessions were (i) "Contributing to Social Development"; (ii)
"Contributing to Economic Development" and (iii) "Contributing to better
Governance and Legislation".

The Conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab
Mukherjee at 1100 hours on Saturday, 5 March, 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The
Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, Vice-President & Chairman, Rajya Sabha,
Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari; the Speaker, Lok Sabha, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and Dr.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of Bangladesh also attended the Inaugural Ceremony.
The President, the Vice-President & Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Speaker, Lok Sabha
addressed the distinguished gathering. The Secretary-General, Lok Sabha proposed the
Vote of Thanks. In the evening a Cultural Programme was organised followed by Dinner
hosted by Hon'ble Speaker, Lok Sabha at Hotel ‘The Ashok’.

Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India and Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil,
Former President of India addressed the distinguished gathering at the Valedictory Session
held on 6 March, 2016 in the Central Hall, Parliament House. Smt. Sumitra Mahajan,
Speaker, Lok Sabha presented the Closing Remarks. A Group Photograph of all delegates
alongwith dignitaries was taken in the lawns between Central Hall and Gate No.1
Parliament House after the Valedictory Session.
